The practice-program hub for the Records & documentation track. Four practice exams mirror the four-module lesson sequence — ASCE 38 quality levels assignment and the audit artefacts per line, the per-block field-sketch convention and its five artefacts per block, the photo-and-video capture standard with the in-frame identifier and the photo log, and the contractor-vs-municipal deliverable split with the segment-ID namespace that binds them. All four practice exams are live.

Each module ships with its own instrumented practice assessment. The shape mirrors the existing NULCA prep practice-program on /training/nulca/practice — eight questions per exam, four options each, instant feedback, score summary with a tier label at the end.

Module 01 · ASCE 38 utility quality levels
The ASCE 38 quality-level canonical cases the closeout line carries: potholed (A) with the pothole log as the audit artefact; multi-method (B) with the method-stack annotation; records + one method (C) with the record-source citation + confirming reading + datum tie; records-only (D) with the records-only stamp + not-defensible-until-potholed annotation + TBC depth. Plus the bounded-negative rewrite (method stack + sweep length + calibration point + frequency) and the calibration-log reference next to every geophysical method on the line.

Module 02 · Field-sketch standards
The per-block sketch convention the field uses, not the all-day roll — five artefacts per block (North arrow, scale bar, datum tie, sweep-start timestamp, method-stack label), sign-off at the bottom of the block (technician + date + time), the per-feature geometry rule (every fitting on the page, every offset labelled, every valve tied to a monument), and the timestamp-alignment-to-the-equipment-log that anchors a sketch block to a single sweep.

Module 03 · Photo and video documentation
Media-archive conventions that make the closeout queryable — in-frame identifiers (a chalkboard with the photo number and date), static bookends on a video clip (the surface reference at the start and end), the five-field photo log (photo number + timestamp + segment ID + technician + caption), a still-frame capture alongside each video clip, and project-archive persistence so a personal phone is not the long-term storage.

Module 04 · Deliverable formats
Twin-pair deliverable shaping — the contractor-actionable tier (findings map + recommendations memo + field-report summary, with APWA colour as utility-class key and the level stamp as a separate annotation) vs. the municipal-records tier (per-utility registry + bounded-negative annotations + calibration evidence + as-built alignment notes, with the recommendations memo omitted and a long-form records-tier summary in its place). Plus the segment-ID namespace contract that binds the two tiers and the per-PDF signature-block distinction.

Why a four-exam practice program for closeout depth

ASCE 38 utility quality level assignment, the per-block field-sketch convention, the photo-and-video capture standard, and the contractor-vs-municipal deliverable split are four different vocabularies — each one reads against the same closeout package, but a single graded practice exam cannot exercise all four. The four-exam split lets a learner audit a specific part of the closeout package without re-reading the rest of the track.

The four lessons in the track and the four practice exams pair one-to-one by topic. The ASCE 38 practice exam grades the canonical cases per line and the audit artefacts each case has to ship; the field-sketch practice exam grades the per-block convention, the five artefacts per block, and the timestamp alignment to the equipment log; the photo-and-video practice exam grades the in-frame identifier, the static bookends on a clip, the five-field photo log, and the project-archive persistence; the deliverable-formats practice exam grades the contractor-vs-municipal split, the segment-ID namespace contract, and the per-PDF signature-block distinction.

A learner who finished Module 01 lands on a graded ASCE 38 practice exam; a learner who finished Module 02 lands on a graded field-sketch practice exam. Take them in sequence or jump to the module whose vocabulary you want to drill. Each exam returns an instant-feedback score with a tier label (defensibility-ready / on track / worth a second pass) at the end so the next pass of the lesson is targeted, not open-ended.

The same rebuild-the-package logic all four exams share
Each exam question asks the reader to rebuild a specific part of the closeout package — a one-line audit artefact, the method-stack annotation on a sketch block, the static bookends on a video clip, the level stamp and bounded-negative annotation on a deliverable line — and the rationale names the rebuild as a fragment of the package that has to be reproducible at audit time.

ASCE 38 assigns each finding one of four quality levels based on the method that confirmed it. The ladder is the shareable artefact: a segment tagged at A carries a different evidentiary weight than one tagged at D, and the consumer should never have to infer that weight from the technical narrative.
